PaaaWOW Collar Size and Fit Guide: How to Choose XS, S, M, or L

Measuring a Yorkshire Terrier's neck — Find the Right Fit

Measure your dog's neck and compare it with the current PaaaWOW size ranges instead of guessing by breed.

Dogs of the same breed can have very different neck sizes. Age, body condition, coat, and individual build all matter, so the safest starting point is a direct measurement.

The current PaaaWOW Gem Pet Collar size ranges are:

SizeNeck range
XS8-11 in
S12-15 in
M16-21 in
L22-25 in

Confirm the live size chart on the product page before ordering because specifications can change.

How to Measure Your Dog's Neck

  1. Use a soft measuring tape. If you do not have one, use a non-stretch string and measure the string with a ruler.
  2. Have the dog stand in a relaxed position.
  3. Measure where the collar normally sits, without pulling the tape tightly.
  4. Record the measurement in inches.
  5. Compare the number with the official size ranges.

Do not select a size only because it is commonly associated with the dog's breed. Do not buy an oversized collar for a puppy to “grow into” if it can slip off now.

What a Good Fit Should Do

A correctly fitted collar should:

  • remain secure during normal movement;
  • avoid slipping over the head;
  • allow comfortable breathing and neck movement;
  • avoid pressing into the skin; and
  • sit according to the manufacturer's fitting instructions.

The commonly used finger check can be a helpful starting point, but coat thickness, body shape, and collar design vary. Follow PaaaWOW's official fitting instructions when they provide more specific guidance.

Why Fit Matters

Retention and location safety

A GPS collar cannot report the dog's location if the dog slips out of it. Fit affects whether the device stays attached; it does not improve the underlying accuracy of GPS signals.

PaaaWOW's 7-ft positioning claim applies under supported positioning and network conditions. Buildings, trees, indoor use, signal coverage, and connectivity can still affect results.

Activity monitoring

A loose, shifting, or poorly positioned device may produce inconsistent motion observations. However, the collar does not visually detect lip licking, yawning, facial expressions, or other camera-based signals.

Comfort

A collar that is too tight may cause rubbing, hair loss, skin irritation, or discomfort. A collar that is too loose may rotate, hang, catch on objects, or slip off.

Signs the Fit Needs Attention

Recheck the fit if:

  • the collar can slide over the dog's head;
  • it rotates or hangs excessively;
  • the dog persistently scratches at the neck;
  • you see redness, pressure marks, hair loss, or chafing;
  • the dog's weight or coat has changed; or
  • a puppy is growing quickly.

Remove the collar and seek veterinary advice for skin injury, swelling, breathing difficulty, or another health concern.

Size and AI Training Are Separate

The PaaaWOW Real-Time AI Training Coach uses a phone camera to guide an owner's timing, cues, body movement, waiting, resetting, and rewarding. The app works without the collar, so collar size does not control camera-based AI training accuracy.

Before Ordering

  • Measure twice.
  • Check the current size chart.
  • Review exchange and return eligibility.
  • Confirm that the measured neck falls within a listed range.
